I always try to take a calm and friendly approach with children in order to make lessons as much fun and stress-free as possible! Ideally starting 11+ preparation at the beginning of Year 5, means that children can progress at a gentle but steady pace.
When I have introduced children to the various types of questions, I am then able to increase the level of difficulty gradually - whilst beginning to work 'against the clock' - until they are comfortable working on complete papers which reflect the challenge of the exam within the time allowed.
I do not screen children before starting lessons with me in order to determine whether I wish to accept them as pupils or not. I do not believe that would be fair, as some children make astonishing progress throughout the year and work hard to bring all the elements we have worked on together as the test date draws near. Many parents and pupils also report that tuition has a positive effect on schoolwork and confidence in general. It is important to state that I cannot guarantee a pass result, but I aim to provide helpful and honest feedback as we go along.
